Optimal exposure is necessary for minimally invasive otologic surgery. Augmented reality allows to enrich the real environment by adding data without replacing it by a virtual environment and to view this information on a single screen by combining the vision of the operating field and the imaging. Current trends on subtotal petrosectomy with cochlear implantation in recalcitrant chronic middle ear disorders

Objective. To establish the safety and effectiveness of subtotal petrosectomy with cochlear implantation in patients affected by chronic middle ear disorders to refractory to previous surgical treatments. Methods. A multicentre, retrospective study was conducted on patients affected by recalcitrant chronic middle ear disorders who underwent cochlear implantation in combi-nation with subtotal petrosectomy. Prospective Validation of Facial Nerve Monitoring to Prevent Nerve Damage During Robotic Drilling

Facial nerve damage has a detrimental effect on a patient's life, therefore safety mechanisms to ensure its preservation are essential during lateral skull base surgery. During robotic cochlear implantation a trajectory passing the facial nerve at <0.5 mm is needed. Recently a stimulation probe and nerve monitoring approach were developed and introduced clinically, however for patient safety no trajectory was drilled closer than 0.4 mm. Introduction: Previous studies have proven the effectiveness of bilateral cochlear implantation compared to unilateral cochlear implantation. In many of these studies the unilateral hearing situation was simulated by switching off one of the cochlear implants in bilateral cochlear implant users.
